This spring, we have been studying birds and their nests. We made a simple fabric mache nesting bowl to show the process of nest building, piece by piece.
40 strips of fabric, cut 3/4 inch wide and at least 2 inches long
1 cup of Elmers school glue
A bowl to use as a mold
Turn a small bowl upside down and cover it well with plastic wrap. One strip at a time, dip the fabric pieces into the glue, making sure that they are completely saturated. Then, squeeze the excess glue off and place on the plastic wrapped bowl. Repeat the process until the entire surface is covered. Let dry for 24-48 hours.
To remove the fabric bowl, loosen the wrap by running a knife or popsicle stick between the plastic and the bowl. Use the plastic wrap to pull the fabric mache away from the form. Trim the edges with scissors if needed.
