I knitted these in Lamb’s Pride worsted weight, on homemade dowel needles (near a size 8). The finished egg is 2.5 inches tall, and it can also be felted! Just run through a hot cycle(s) on your washing machine. Have fun experimenting with different sizes and yarns, embroidery, or multiple colors!
Cast on 6 stitches (I always use 2 needles to ensure gauge) and divide onto three double pointed needles (2 on each needle)
1: Join and knit (6 stitches)
2: K1, KFB* on each needle (x3) (9 stitches)
3: knit
4: K1, KFB, K1* x3 (12 stitches)
5: knit
6: K1, KFB, K2* x3 (15 stitches)
7: knit
8: K1, KFB, K3* x3 (18 stitches)
9: knit
10: K1, KFB, K4* x3 (21 stitches)
11-15: knit
16: K1, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K1* x3, (15 stitches) stuff generously with wool.
17: K2tog, K1, K2tog * x3 (9 stitches), break yarn with a long tail and thread onto a yarn needle. Pull through those nine stitches and cinch like a drawstring. Weave in around the base and pull yarn through the egg, then snip excess. Do the same for the initial tail.
