Pattern

CH42

HDC 3rd CH from the hook, and in every CH, CH3, turn.

DC first HDC, 2DC in 2nd HDC, continue alternating until the end of the row, CH2, turn.

2HDC in every DC for the entire row, except for the last 2 Dc.  Only place 1 HDC in each of the last 2 DC, CH3, turn.

DC every HDC for the entire row.  At the end of the row SS to beginning CH3 of the last row, CH3.  This forms the “V” neck base.  From now on you will be working in a round.

DC every DC for the entire row, SS to the CH3 of the last row.  CH3, Do this same row for a total of FOUR rows.

DC X3 every third DC.  The 3 DC will form a  shell stitch.  Do this every 3rd Dc for the entire row until the last stitch.  In the last stitch place 2 DC and SS to the beginning CH3 of the first row.  This forms a 3DC shell.  Now CH3.

Place a shell in the 2nd DC of each shell from the previous row.  In the last shell place only 2 Dc and SS to the beginning CH3 of the previous row.  This will again form a shell.  Now CH3.  Do this same row for a total of 2 rows.

Switch colors here if you wish.

Place a shell in the 2nd DC of each shell in the previous row.  In the last shell, place only 2 DC and SS to the beginning CH3 of the previous row.  This will again form a shell.   Now CH3.  Do the same row for a total of 3 rows.

Fasten off.

Now go back to the neckline using the same color as the bottom of the capelet.  Insert yarn at the base of the V neck on the left side as you are looking down the capelet.

SC in each stitch around the entire neckline perimeter and fasten off.

And there you have it.  Happy crocheting!

Note: The capelet shown was crocheted with Bernat Alpaca Blends and Lions Brand Homespun, but any bulky yarn can be used.
