Reversible Crochet Baby Hat

With a new little one on the way, I have been thinking up new patterns to keep my baby warm in the cold months. This pattern is a very quick and easy crochet for a reversible hat.
By following the instructions, gauge and materials listed in this pattern you will create a newborn hat with a circumference of 18 inches, 20 inches at maximum stretch. With the average newborn head being 12-15 inches, this hat will fit a baby aged 0 to 3 months.

Yarn: Super Bulky Lions Brand Hometown USA
Stitch markers
Notes:
~Please note that the following information is very important for the construction of this hat. The yarn used to make this hat is by Lion Brand and is called Hometown USA. It is a very stretchy and thick yarn, probably more thick that other brands in the Super Bulky category. If you are using a different yarn, please be aware that there might be discrepancies in sizing of the hat.
~We are providing the gauge for this yarn according to Lion Brand to assist you in choosing the appropriate yarn for this hat pattern.
Gauge:
Knit: 9 stitches x 12 rows = 4″ (10 cm) on size 13 (9mm) needles
Crochet: 6.6 sc + 8 rows = 4″ (10 cm) on size N-13 hook
~Place a stitch marker at the end of each row. Do not connect the rows with a slip stitch, just continue with the next row’s first stitch.
Pattern
CH 2
Place 5 SC in the first CH. (From here on, only SC/HDC in the front loop of the stitch that you are crocheting in.)
SC, 2 SC, SC, 2SC, Etc, until the end of the row. (Do this for a total of 2 rows.)
SC, SC, 2 SC, SC, SC, 2 SC, Etc, until the end of the row. (Do this for a total of 2 rows.)
SC, 2 SC, SC, 2SC, Etc, until the end of the row.
SC EVERY SC for the entire row. (Do this for a total of 2 rows.)
HDC EVERY SC for the entire row. (Do this for a total of 4 rows.)
SC to the beginning stitch of the last row then fasten off.
Weave in your ends.
The detail of this pattern is very pretty.
When you turn the hat inside out it has a totally different look, almost like a wee beehive.
One hat, two looks! Perfect for keeping little heads warm in the chill of the winter.
